Dean came home for lunch today and asked if I had been watching the inauguration. I had not really been "watching" it. It had taken over every channel, however, so I did catch a few minutes here and there, in between laundry and holding kids.
I watched as President Bush and his wife boarded the helicopter on their way back to Texas. I wondered what they were thinking. Were they sad "Oh I wish we didn't have to go" or were they relieved "Gee--glad that's over with. Now the country is his problem!"
Then I watched as President Obama and the First Lady walked down the road going somewhere (like I said--I wasn't "watching" it). What were they thinking? "I can't believe this is happening?" or "I should have wore flats--not these blasted high heels" or "They like me...they really like me!"
I don't know much about politics, but I do know that the next couple years will be interesting. A challenge in all aspects to say the least. Nonetheless, I am grateful to be a citizen of the United States. I am grateful for the opportunity to witness the events that are taking place. I am grateful for religious freedom and the restored Gospel. And I am especially grateful for a living prophet and the wisdom he offers at times like these. I appreciate the simple words of President Monson: “We send our best wishes to President-elect Obama and pray for the blessings of a loving Father in Heaven to be upon him and his administration.”
Enough said.
