I remember back in the day when reading was fun! In elementary school they had things like "The Story Pit" and "The Book Nook." We had an awesome librarian that always dressed up like a character out of the book she was reading to us. Reading was fun then.
Then came High School Honors English. They forced us to read ridiculous "Literary Works of Art," like One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (That's a story for another day--If you haven't read it, don't bother). Mind you all the books we had to read were not terrible, some of them were actually good, but I hated being forced to read something I didn't enjoy reading. In Freshman English, we had a book report due every couple of weeks. We had to pick from this list, read the book, and write a report. Very monotonous. The only thing I think I learned from those assignments was don't cheat; but that is also a story for another day!
So after being ruined when came to reading; I am finally beginning to enjoy it again. I haven't brought myself to sit down with a classic or anything close, but maybe someday I will return to the greats! When in Phx a couple weekends ago, I came home with 10 books. I have already read them all. Reading is so much more fun when the book is something that is actually interesting to you. Mind you the ones I have been reading are simple, some may consider cheesy, but it takes my mind off poopy diapers and scrubbing toilets. A little escape from reality....but that's the point, right ?!?

Hi, my name is Katie and I've been reading for 1 year, 5 months, 10 days, and 18 hours.
I have a similar high school experience with reading. I didn't start really reading again until I read the Twilight series. Now I can't get enough! The hard part is I missed out on a lot of great books and have been trying to play catch-up. Thank goodness for Goodreads! I love that site!
