We went to Phoenix this past weekend for Dean's brother's (Dennis) baby blessing and to help them move. Lauren started running a low grade fever on Wednesday. Friday morning, when it was time to leave, she still had it. We assumed it would eventually subside, and hit the road.
We had a good time Friday evening with Ashley and then stayed the rest of the weekend with Damond and Adriana. Friday night her fever got higher, but with Tylenol and Motrin, it improved. We hung out Saturday and again Saturday night her fever was up to 102+ even after I gave her both Tylenol and Motrin. By Sunday morning a 5am she was still on fire. (Flashbacks to exactly one year ago when she had her febrile seizure--I think that morning will haunt me forever.)
We decided we needed to take her to the Dr. and that it wasn't worth risking it again. After 4 hours of waiting in the ER, chest xrays, blood work, urine sample (yes via catheter--again!) 2 rectal temp checks, an IV and other things, they released her and we headed home. The Dr. thought maybe it was pneumonia, but concluded it was a viral infection and inner ear infection.
It may seem ridiculous that we went to the ER for just a fever, but Lauren and fevers is not something that mixes well. I will never forget what she looked like during her seizure and afterward, holding her, seeing her lips purple and eyes rolled back in her head, barely breathing. It was awful. I never want that to happen again.
So needless to say, we missed the blessing, but Dean did help them move, so half of our trip was a success! I have no picture to show the fun parts. I was too stressed.
Does anyone know where I can buy a plastic bubble, preferably large enough to hold a 2year old child?

Well, I am glad to hear that everything is all good. And...I also didn't know just how crafty you were Missy. You haven't been hiding any talents have you? We need to get together and do something crafty. I want to make Dominick a quiet book for Sunday.
Is she feeling better? We always have such a good time with you guys! I can't wait to have a bigger house so it won't seem so crazy!
Always trust your motherly instincts!
If you find that bubble let us know! We could use one around here also!
I'm glad to hear Lauren is feeling better! It's not fun to be away from home, when your kids are sick! Welcome Home! Have a Good day!
So I guess I was signed in as Brian in my comment above!
You can never be too careful. You are the only one who will stick up for your child and look out for her so you trip to the ER is completely ok. I'm glad she is feeling better. She is so adorable with all the cute things she says. I love reading her commentary on life. Your family is beautiful.
I hate to hear that Lauren was sick! I know how you feel though. When Remi was a year old she had the febrile seizures too! I will never forget that morning. It was just how you described it. With the purple lips and eyes rolled back in her head. She had two seizures before the ambulance got here. And then they had to do all those tests and CT Scans and Spinal tap! That is just too much for such a small person to go through. She stayed just one night in the hospital, but every time she gets a fever we are a nervous wreck! You are a great mom! I would've taken her to the ER too!
I don't think it seems ridiculous to go to the ER. You just go with your mom instinct. Sometimes my mom instinct gets carried away, but I figure if I am going to make a mistake, it will be on the side of being too careful!
I hope she is feeling lots better by now.
Poor Lauren! Hope everyone has recovered from your trip. (:
Too, scary! I didn't know about her seizure last year. I'd be cautious, too. Hope everyone gets healthy and stays that way.
