If you were to ask Dean what he would want, if he could have anything in the world, he would probably tell you he wanted a shop full of tools and a gigantic pallet of wood. Yup, just a big old pile of wood. Then he would be in heaven building us a whole house full of new furniture.
So when we decided it was time for a new entertainment center {he built the old one} he was all in. As long as he got to build it of course.
I found this beauty on Craigslist for dirt cheap:
We {or maybe I} decided we wanted tall and as skinny as possible, versus our short, fat previous one. Dean just wanted the TV out of the kids reach. The designing, planning and building began.
After breaking down and sanding the original piece, Dean put back together what was staying, salvaged the extra wood and added on the new pieces.
It then looked like this:
Pretty cool right!?! He finished off the missing pieces, made the doors {including plexyglass fronts} and we painted it all black. Mr. Impatient took it in the house right away, where it sat for several months incomplete, because he HAD to see it inside! Then, once I couldn't take looking at it any longer, without the doors and with chipped paint, we hauled it back outside and finished it off. We gave it a good coat of clear finish, Dean installed the the doors and some new hardware and I added a little "distressed" touch.
Now 6 months from the time we started, it is finally finished!:
Pretty cool, right?
Yep, he's one talented guy!
I think I might start making a list of all the furniture I want.
However next time, I may enforce a deadline far less than 6 months!
