Lauren started Kindergarten! My sweet little baby girl isn't so little anymore!
We went to the open house the Friday before, where she was able to meet her teacher, check out the room, sit in her desk and just get a glimpse of what Kindergarten was going to be like.
Monday morning it was go time! She was really quiet and I could tell she was nervous. I tried really hard to be super positive and excited, even though I was freaking out inside and on the verge of tears!!
I took her to her classroom, she hung up her backpack and sat in her desk. I asked if she wanted to go outside and play with all the other kids and she no! She just wanted to sit in her desk! Finally, the bell rang and it was time for us hovering mothers to leave! Let's just say I had a hard first day! Lauren however, had a wonderful first day!
Here are the answers to questions I asked Lauren about her first day:
- Tell me about the best part of your day. Making pictures.
- What was the hardest thing you had to do today? I didn’t like when she hit the dinosaur but I listened! {apparently there is a buzzing dinosaur that she uses to get their attention}
- Did anything silly happen at school today? Umm…not really.
- Who did you play with today? Alana, Mia and the girl wearing the red shirt
- What did you play? Climbed on the swing set and played on the climby bus and the tall slide.
- Who did you sit with at lunch? Mia and the girl in the purple shirt.
- What’s your favorite time of day at school? Everything!!!
- Did anything sad happen at school today? Not really.
- What was the worst thing about school today? Nothing!!!
- When you need help with doing something, what do you do? Well you raise your hand if you need to talk. But they don’t even care if you do it right or wrong. We just have to do our best! {I loved this answer!}
- What is the first thing you do when you get to school? We said the pledge of allegiance. Learned the rules. And she read us the Kissing hand Book.
However, I could not understand why suddenly she was being so hyper/crazy/crabby/ornery at home. After a couple of days and a conversation with another more experienced,wise mother, I realized that Lauren spends all day at school trying to be the perfect little student and it's exhausting! By the time she gets home, she can finally let it all out! Then on top of that, she is exhausted by her new schedule making her crabby! Once I finally realized this was the problem, we all adjusted accordingly and we had a wonderful rest of the week at home too.
I had intentions of having 100 pictures documenting this first day for her, but it didn't happen. She looks so adorable in her school "uniform" {solid tee's with khaki, denim or navy shorts} carrying a backpack twice her size and an adorable lunch box! She had been so excited to buy all her school supplies {who doesn't love school shopping!?!} and so far homework isn't so bad either!
It's hard for me to believe my baby is growing so fast!
As hard as it is to drop her off each morning, I am excited for the new experiences Kindergarten will bring, the things she will learn and the fun she will have at school! Yay for Kindergarten!
